Common Problems and their Solutions while using Horse Trailers

The importance of good horse trailers can be well understood by people who are involved in task of moving horses from one place to another for shows, sale and various other reasons. There are varieties of these trailers available in the market with different designs, size and utility among which you can select the one as per your choice and requirements. Some of these trailers are meant for 2-3 horses while others have capability of carrying 6-8 and even more horses. If you are also planning a travel with your horse trailer shortly then it is very important for you to know the most common problems that are faced by people while traveling and their solutions so that you can avoid them or deal with them properly. Below given is the list of the most common problems and their solutions:

Problem 1: Horse getting panic and disturbed:

Solution: One of the most common and major problem faced by people using horse trailers is the panicking of the horses. No matter how well you train your equines but there various situations where your horse may get panic while travelling. If you too face the same issue then first of all try to know the reason of panic. There may be multiple reasons like getting bitten by a mate, electric shock due to wiring in the trailer, rash or fast driving, poor space during transportation and others. Once you are able to identify the problem, it will be easier to find a solution. Moreover you can also ask someone else to drive the trailer and you get inside the area where the horses are kept so that you can actually feel the atmosphere and know what is disturbing the horses like sound of the brakes, chains, door movement or anything else.

Problem 2: Problem with the tires of the trailer:

Solution: Another major problem that is faced by people using horse trailer or any other type of trailer is problem with the tires. Majority of the trailer accidents are caused due to poor tire quality or poor maintenance like incorrect size, improper inflation, bald or rotted tires and others. Thus in order to make sure that you and your horses travel safe, check the conditions of your tire as well as axles before travelling. Make sure that you buy good quality tires for your trailers from reputed stores. The Horse Trailers with living quarters further needs to have appropriate tires that can handle the load.

Problem 3: Issues with Hitching up the trailer:

Solution: Another major problem faced by people using the trailers is hitching issues. If you have not hitched your trailer properly then it is surely going to becomes unhitched on the way which will further lead to many other problems. Many a times, we hitch the trailers in a hurry thus not making the proper settings and adjustments. Thus in order to avoid all such situations, connect your trailer safely and calmly and ensure that there is a match between the coupler and the ball and all the cables and chains are properly set. Also make sure to go through the safety checklist before moving.
