Why a Beach Vacation is the Best Kind of Vacation

If you’re planning your family’s vacation this year or wondering about the best ways to treat yourself during some time off, going to the beach should top your list. Consider these three reasons why this is your best choice.

More Than Swimming and Sunshine

Though you’ll be spending lots of time in the water and lazing in the sun, you can see and do much more on a beach vacation. Many popular beach towns have boardwalks lined with restaurants, bars, and even amusement parks. If you want to stay in the water, look for local shops offering rentals on stand-up surfing, kayaking, snorkeling, scuba, and windsurfing equipment. Many shops that rent gear also offer lessons or quick orientations to help you enjoy your day out on the water.

Unbeatable Relaxation

If you’re planning a vacation with the goal of some rest and relaxation, you won’t do better than a trip to a beach. Few other types of vacations invite you to do nothing except catch some sun and sleep. Indeed, every one of your senses will be delighted and invite you to relax on the beach. The warmth of the sand, the sound of the ocean, and the sight of the blue water — a color that reduces stress and promotes mental relaxation — will melt away any anxiety you brought with you on your trip.

Peace and Quiet

There are plenty of beaches that draw enormous crowds, and if you’re traveling during peak times, you’ll have to plan your schedule carefully to avoid lots of people. But you can find many places in the most popular beach towns around the world where you can cherish some peace and quiet regardless of when you’re visiting. Here are a few examples of popular summer destinations and nearby secluded spots you can duck away to:

  • San Diego, California — Black’s Beach: Many people visit San Diego for its cool Pacific waters and popular attractions. Find some solitude with a short drive north to Black’s Beach in Torrey Pines. Book a Pacific Beach hotel room with Hotel Planner to enjoy easy access to the big city and these quiet shores.
  • Miami, Florida — Key Biscayne: You can celebrate with some surf and sun in Miami without having to push your way past strangers to reach the water. Plan your day early and head for Key Biscayne, one of Miami’s barrier islands, to avoid the tourists on Miami Beach.
  • Sydney, Australia — Resolute Beach: Plenty of tourists flock to Sydney to visit one of its 100+ beaches. Bondi Beach and nearby spots can get a bit packed, but you can make a daytrip north through Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park for total seclusion at remote Resolute Beach.
  • Southern France — Cap Taillat: The French Riviera lining the Mediterranean Sea offers such beautiful beaches that many travelers would gladly stand shoulder to shoulder for a day of vacation on these shores. If you’d prefer to avoid crowds, sneak away to the village of Ramatuelle to find a couple of secluded spots in southeastern France.

Beach vacations are definitively one of the best ways to invest your travel time. If you or your family members need some convincing, just refer to the reasons above.
