The Fontainebleau goes paperless with iMacs
In an attempt to be both tech-forward and eco-conscious, the Fontainebleau hotel is ready to open a new property in Las Vegas, and they intend to put an iMac in each one of the almost-4000 rooms. This follows the Fontainebleau in Miami Beach which also installed iMacs in all their rooms as part of their paperless movement.

I love this idea. On the one hand, it worries me a bit to think of people who are not computer-savvy plinking away on a beautiful iMac. However, I’m sure that they’ll have heavy duty virus security installed.
But just the thought of retiring to a hotel room after sightseeing all day and being able to sit down at a shiny iMac to email people back home (to taunt them, naturally) is very appealing.
At home, having a computer in my living room is a regular distraction (”I wonder if I have any new mail. Has anyone commented on that entry that requires a reply? Ooh, new photos on Flickr!”) but in a place with so much to do, I don’t think it would be too much of a time suck.
What do you think of an iMac in your hotel room?

Sounds very cool… I’m just worried that hotel guests who have this access to a “shiny and glamorous” new iMac, might be inhibited to go out. Tourists should be doing “touristy” stuff.. breaking the chains of everyday normal life.
What are your thoughts on this?

I guess it depends on the person. I’m very in love with the Internet but wouldn’t be using a hotel room computer if there were other things to do.
But don’t forget that some travelers are not there for tourist reasons, this could be very useful for business travelers.

I love paper- but I love paper free even more! I think it is the wave of the future- so why not embrace it.
