Take it with you when you go

by Sherry on January 22nd, 2008

Usually when you go on vacation, you want to escape daily life but here’s something interesting to throw into your suitcase if you feel a little freaked out about leaving everything behind - this Ambient Orb Device will tell you - without a computer, phone, or internet connectin - what’s going on in the stock market, the weather (which could be handy if you want to know if today is a good day to visit those must-see tourist hot spots or if it will pour rain), pollen counts, IM buddies, and other custom data.

The pleasant-looking orb plugs into a 110V power outlet and it uses a wireless network to gather its information so you don’t need anything else. Updates can come in anywhere from every few minutes to every hour or so. You can customize some of the data info to keep track of your own website, what’s going on at your favorite website (like this one!) via feeds, or your banking.

What’s nice about it is that if you’re a little embarrassed over needing to keep your fingers on the pulse back home, you can pretend it’s just some sort of meditation device. When it glows in a variety of colors or pulses to indicate new data to you, no one will ever know what you’re really doing with it!
