Take a virtual tour before you get there

by Sherry on June 5th, 2008

You can always count on Google to do something useful and fun. Their Panoramio site is a photo sharing community. That doesn’t sound much different from your average photo sharing site, right?

Eiffel TowerExcept with Panoramio, you organize all your photos based on location with the help of Google Maps. When you view your photos, you’ll also be give a satellite and global view of its location.

With this in mind, you can go to their “Look Around” section and when you click on any area within that location, you will be given another photo from the Panoramio database which matches.

What does that mean? You can basically go on a virtual walking tour of an area before you get there. If you’re traveling, you can view the area you’re visiting to see what’s there. When you arrive, you’ll know what to expect and you’ll know what you’re looking for.

Much like the virtual tour of a house on a real estate website, the virtual walking tour can’t replace actually being there, but it’s a great guide to prepare yourself before getting there!
