Swim with your favorite songs

by Sherry on October 27th, 2007

I don’t know about anyone else, but when I think about vacations, swimming is almost always a factor, whether it’s in the ocean (yes PLEASE) or a pool (good enough for me!). If you’re at a resort, there will likely already be music playing at the pool, courtesy of your hotel’s DJ - I still have fond memories of the Omar, the cute DJ at the Arrecife hotel in Cancun. However, if you’re down by the beach or vacationing at a lakeside cottage, you won’t have a DJ. You may also not feel like annoying everyone around you with a blasting boombox.

On the other hand it’s not like you can go swimming with your iPod, right? Well, no, but you CAN go swimming with the Finis SwiMP3v2 (and can I just note that “SwiMP3″ is a clever name right there?).

It claims to offer super sound clarity even in and under the water thanks to bone conduction. I didn’t understand what that meant until I read their description which says it uses the “direct transfer of sound vibrations from the cheek bone to the inner ear”, which avoids the muffled sound we usually hear coming from above the water while we’re in it.

The whole thing is fully waterproof, which probably goes without saying, and it allegedly won’t get in your way no matter what swim stroke you’re doing.

The pros: It has a rechargeable battery, only weighs 2 ounces, and is compatible with PCs and Macs.
The cons: It only allows for 256 megs of music which isn’t a whole lot compared to most major MP3 players.

Overall, although it’s more limited in storage space, it will still give you a decent amount of music and it’s the only one that works underwater. Also, you can buy it for $179.99 which is not as cheap as generic MP3 players, but definitely cheaper than the latest iPod.
