SlideIt makes text on your phone easier

by Sherry on March 31st, 2008

Texting isn’t just for the high school crowd - it can come in handy when you need to quickly send some info back to the office while you’re on the road. If you’re on vacation and your family has split up to visit different attractions, it can be used to suggest a meet-up time and place when you’re done sight-seeing. But everyone knows that using your fingers to tap out long messages on those little keys can be an enormous pain, even if it has a QWERTY keyboard.

SlideIT offers up something innovative. For $40 you can get SlideIT and instead of typing out your words on a little keyboard or touchscreen, you use your stylus to point at the first letter of the word and then slide it around to each subsequent letter in the word. When the word is complete, lift the stylus and it will send the word to your text screen.

It sounds like it might take some getting used to but it also sounds like it could become a very fast way to use text messaging and email on your cell phone. According the site you can actually get up to over 50 words per minute once you get used to it.

Neat! I think I’d actually like that better than conventional txting. I’m a fairly fast typer, but my thumbs don’t move nearly as fast as my typing fingers do. “Sliding” and relying on visual cues would be much faster.
