Satisfy your fast food cravings with Google and Fast Food Maps
When I travel, I like to treat myself to some good meals - they don’t have to be fancy top notch restaurants, just restaurants that locals enjoy on a special night out. I also like to eat local cuisine - I’m not going to go to Mexico and eat a burger or fly to Germany and go looking for hot dogs, you know?
But sometimes, I guess you just might find yourself craving the comforts of a fast food meal. You’re in a hurry because you want to head to some sort of local attraction or there’s a tour starting soon, but you’re also starving. What to do? Well, you can try Fast Food Maps to - you guessed it - find a plethora of fast food joints.
While I can’t personally imagine wanting to eat at Kentucky Fried Chicken while in Prague, if you’re away from home and really need a Whopper, you can use Fast Food Maps to find the closest Burger King!

While I love espresso, when I was in Rome there was one day that I just needed a regular cup of coffee in a to go paper cup that I could just walk around with. My desperate search lead me to a McDonalds…this would have been helpful.

Much more useful would be a guide to *non-Corporate* fast food joints, ie. the little local places that do fabulous quick simple food on the go, whether it’s roasted fish and salad in a pita, or a big scoop of Tom Yum in a disposable bowl.
That’s the problem with KFC, McD and the like - they’re pretty much the same everywhere, with only a little variation. I object to this lack of variety more than I object to what’s actually in these types of fast food. :)

Mike - that’s an excellent point! While I love a Big Mac more than I should admit, the little mom and pop places are often much better than the chains. That would be a very nice addition to that site - local fast food!

Ah, but to avoid being a hypocrite, I should qualify my stance a bit… :)
Transienttravels has a good point: when I was in Lefkosia, Cyprus, the McD’s had the best and the cheapest coffee around, about 0.7 Euros a slug if I remember rightly. So the big chains are great if you’re after your daily fix of something familiar.
But yep - local food always rules. My personal bibles are always the Rough Guides: food-wise, they’ve never let me down. The RG to Greece led me to an empty restaurant in Chania, Crete, serving some of the best food I’ve ever eaten. And in Rethymno just down the coast, it guided me to Kyria Maria - about the most eccentric and delightful eatery I’ve even had the good fortune to enjoy.
Now, if Google Maps had a Rough Guides plug-in, then surgery couldn’t wipe the smile off my face.

I totally agree that local food is the BEST. In fact (and please excuse the cliche) the off the beaten path kind of places that you stumble upon are always the most memorable part of my trips.
That being said, I wonder if adding such mom and pop locations into this web site would take away from that a bit?
