Safe Road Maps tells you where accidents happen

by Sherry on August 6th, 2008

Planning a road trip for your next getaway? Great! More people are doing it. Even with gas prices soaring, it’s still not too bad to take a drive within your home state or just across the border.

car crashBefore you get in your car though, there’s a website that is definitely worth a pit stop. Safe Road Maps doesn’t just provide Google Maps for the sake of directions. It also uses info from the Fatality Analysis Reporting System to provide data demonstrating where car-related deaths have occurred.

Enter in the area you are planning to drive through and you’ll be able to see sites of numerous traffic accidents causing death, as well as details such as whether it involved speeding, drinking, whether seatbelts were worn, and more. There is also video footage available and information on how laws are trying to make areas safer.

The data is all pulled from their 2006 records so it’s not up-to-date but it will still give you a basic idea and let you know where fatal accidents have commonly occurred.
