More traveling rants than you can shake a stick at!
Our wonderful travel blog community has rallied together to tell the world about the things that just tick us off. Being positive is a wonderful thing, and I am nothing if not an eternal optimist, but every so often it’s good to just get something off your chest.
For instance, Melissa would like to remind whiney budget travelers that you get what you pay for, so perhaps you should try to enjoy yourself instead of complaining about things that aren’t perfect. And speaking of not complaining too much, Mary Jo had a good laugh over all the Top Chefs who were annoyed at how hard it was to create a top notch frou-frou meal for airlines, demonstrating the differences between reality TV and, well, reality. And while we’re discussing airlines anyway, Ruth wanted to share her worst experience with an airline service - I think pretty much anyone who has flown frequently probably has a horror story of bad service so you can likely relate (and sympathize!).
SP will make you itch and squirm while sharing five facts about fire ants (shudder) that you may not know. Continuing in the vein of things people apparently don’t know, Jon wants to point out ten things that tourists do in DC that are really annoying. On the flip side, Lauren will share the frustration of a hinderance to tourism, what with Sydney being in something of a lockdown right now. And Grace is tired of people telling her to just get a maid and explains the differences between the Phillipines and Filipino expats - the grass isn’t always greener!
It’s easy to think that people living in your preferred vacation destination are whooping it up all the time, but you would be wrong! For instance, as much as Heather loves living in Las Vegas, there are five things that really annoy her about it. Matt would probably understand her frustrations since he pointed out several drawbacks to living in Chicago. Paul, meanwhile, was ready and willing to provide a whole collection of things that are frustrating in San Francisco - read and be angry with him!
In fact, there is no shortage of ranting when one lives in a frequently traveled area. Switzerland may be associated with relaxing ski vacations, but the roadwork will give you road rage. And if you are indeed prone to road rage, Chloe wants you to know a few reasons driving in Atlanta might cause you stress. On the other hand, Lynn loves Paris and the French language but DO NOT sprinkle some random French into your blogs for no apparent reason or she’ll get really mad! Tigi’s source of DC frustration is less about the tourists and more about the lack of decent Republican candidates. Alex of Sirened could discuss politics too, since the main question is all about the lack of accountability and common sense in the US.
Speaking of common sense, if you’re heading to London, please know that you are somewhat annoying if you stroll along the sidewalk blocking the entire span and causing mayhem for people trying to get through. And heavens, folks, try not to overuse the jokes - Mary Jo wants you to know that it actually does NOT rain in Seattle all the darn time and the jokes are old!
Me? You wonder what a geeky travel writer could possibly find to rant about? Why, what else but all the travel gadgets that haven’t been invented yet - but should have been!
What about you? Don’t let us yell alone. Share your own travel frustrations or tourism rants and let’s just let go of our anger!

Wow, great round-up post. I don’t know who had the idea of doing a rant day but they are pure genius. I already went through many of the rants and will have to come back — really well done event! Thanks for rounding them all up. And I agree a money converter would be a nice deal and wireless everywhere.

Finally! Folks who love to travel, but aren’t afraid of ranting about the things that have gone wrong, or continue to go wrong, or will likely go wrong in the future. We don’t have to take this!! Coincidentally, I was just writing my very own first travel rant (I have a lot…) this morning. If I wasn’t completely new to blogging…I’d figure out how to post it here. :-)
