Is a hotel considered a geeky gadget?

by Sherry on December 10th, 2007

A regular hotel might not hit my radar for this type of a blog, but this particular hotel does. Why? Because the Jules Underwater Lodge is located 21 feet below the surface in Key Largo, Florida, and you have to scuba dive to get there.

Now that’s hardcore!

The hotel used to be an underwater research facility and is still used as such but it also decided to open up (figuratively!) to the public. Only a maximum of six people can book the hotel at a time and it’s actually equipped with air conditioning, hot showers, entertainment center, a galley, and more. Probably no room service though!

It would be perfect for those who truly love scuba diving or who are looking for a very unique getaway. As for myself, I can’t imagine ever being able to vacation there, what with my absolute inability to make myself breathe through a snorkel, let alone try scuba diving. I think being in a hotel 21 feet underwater would possibly give me a heart attack. No, I’ve never had a desire to go in a submarine either, why do you ask?

If you’re up for the “Under the Sea” getaway, you can book one for $375 per person per night and spend some time watching fish swim around you.
