High tech luxury camping
I am going camping this coming weekend. I will be packing up clothes, diapers for my toddler, a deck of playing cards, and lots of snacks and food. While we’re there, my husband is playing at a camp party, so he’ll be bringing his guitar and amp. The most high tech thing I’m bringing is my digital camera with spare batteries and a spare card in case I take video. The most high tech thing my husband is bringing, beyond his musical gear is his mp3 player for the car and his cell phone which won’t even work while we’re there. I like to rough it when camping, even though this isn’t really standard camping . Honestly, I used to love camping when I as a kid and we brought a tent, some clothes, some board games, some food, and a hibachi to cook on. I didn’t give a hoot about showers or shampoo, or even where the nearest toilet was.
People who don’t find roughing it to be charming might be appalled by that.

If you swing to the extreme end of what camping means, you can go to Clayoquot Wilderness Resort, located on Vancouver Island in BC, Canada. The “tents” are decked out with Persian rugs, high end furniture, electricity, heat, and now come with WiFi.
The camp area itself is beautiful. But doesn’t it defeat the purpose to go camping if you’re basically just staying in a hotel room with nylon walls anyway?
Now I’m going to go air out my low-tech sleeping bag!
