GorillaPod puts tripods to shame
I keep saying that some day I need to buy myself a tripod so I can stop balancing my camera on top of shelves, counters, rocks, etc. But you know what? Forget that. Here’s something even better that you can buy and bring with you anywhere you travel - it will be suitable for just about any situation because unlike a tripod which still needs a relatively flat surface, the GorillaPod can hand on to anything. Wrap it around a pole, hang it off a fence, whatever you need.
What’s nice is they cater to three types of camera - you can get one for your basic compact point and shoot ($21.95), one for your SLR or video camera ($39.95), or one that’s heavy duty for heavier camcorders or SLR cameras with heavy zoom lenses ($49.95). You can buy one here.
I need one of these, just so I can see what kind of wacky pictures I can take, but just imagine the amazing vacation photos you can take if you don’t have to worry about whether your camera will safely balance on that Mayan ruin wall because instead you can just wrap it around a tree branch and take your shot!

I recently got back from a trip to Nicaragua and I used the GorillaPod a ton and got some great shots that I would not have got otherwise!
