Give old vacation slides new life with a scanner

by Sherry on May 8th, 2008

I remember when I was a kid, my father would bring his 35mm camera on all our family vacations and he would go through several rolls of film. He rarely got prints done up, choosing to get slides. Then we would have slide parties where our group of friends would get together at someone’s house and we’d all share our favorite vacation shots. (It was more fun than it sounds, really. We didn’t see every single shot, we’d only show the good or amusing ones.)

While that was fun, the sad thing is that it’s a great deal of effort to look at those slides. My dad has boxes and boxes and boxes OF boxes of slides all stacked in the cupboard and to look at them to relive memories, he’d have to get out the projector and set up the screen.

These days, if I go on vacation I take my digital camera with me. Viewing photos is as easy as opening up my photo folder or loading up one of my back-up CDs and looking at them right here on my laptop. If some of them are particularly striking I can print them up on my little printer easily.

Slide and Negative Scanner for your old vacation photos

So what do you do if you’re an old-school photographer who has vacation photos wasting away, unseen on slides? You can get a 35mm Slide and Negative Film Scanner for just under $100. It quickly scans an image in only five seconds, archiving it as a digital file. From there you can play with the included image editing software, print it up to frame it, share it on photo sites like Flickr, or just enjoy remembering your trip to Paris while you sit at your desk.

Definitely more convenient than pulling out that huge projector!
