Dealing with being sick on your travels
I’m currently fighting a very fun (not) gastro bug, and so is one of my kids. In honor of that, I searched around for things that are helpful if you’re unfortunate enough to be sick while you’re traveling.
Obviously, prevention is very important, especially if you’re traveling to areas where water isn’t safe to drink. You can also talk to your doctor about vaccines that are important in the area you plan to visit.
However, if the worst happens and you’re struck with some illness while away from home, this website has a very handy list of suggestions for a First Aid kit that you should stock and bring with you. While not exactly the geekiest of posts I’ve ever given you, even geeks need some TLC when they feel like crawling into a closet to die.
Some of the basic kit supplies include:
- Allergy medication
- Antacids
- Hydrogen peroxide
- Immodium - hello, Turista!
- Tiger balm
Check out the whole list and also talk to your doctor about any suggestions he or she might have. Be sure to follow all transport laws regarding medication by keeping medication in clearly identified containers (preferably the one they came in) and bring any prescriptions with you.
And of course, don’t forget insurance! Nothing ruins a vacation quite like paying a huge fortune on health care in another country!
