Be your own travel agent

by Sherry on July 4th, 2008

I wonder if travel agents are starting to hate the Internet, considering all the things your average traveler can do themselves from the comfort of their home and without having to pay a percentage.

Trip WatcherThere are countless ways to track the best airfare, the best hotel costs, and so on. But you’re busy, right? We all have better things to do than plan out every bit of itinerary while worrying about the best prices. That’s sort of why we used travel agents to begin with, isn’t it? So we wouldn’t have to do anything but show up at the airport on time.

Hotwire wants to save you time and you won’t need a travel agent for this either. It’s a service that combines the best of all the price checker sites out there, into one lone website. Their Trip Watcher will take your departure and destination information and then it will scour countless sites to find the best deals for flights, car rentals, and hotel prices. Everything is in one consolidated place, and once you’ve gotten all your results, you can pick and choose what suits you best - for instance, you don’t care about a layover for an hour, so you take the cheaper flight, but you decide to pay just a little extra to get the best price on the four star hotel instead of the one with three stars.

Whatever you need, Trip Watcher is promising to find the best deal for you. It’s still a fairly brand new service, having launched at the end of June, so jump on it now to see what travel deals you can snag! Then send your travel agent a sympathy card when you no longer require their services.

What about those times you need help badly when you are stranded some where? Imagine…. calling yourself… Hello Mr Myself, I am calling from My-Own-Travel-Agent… bla bla bla… hehehe

But I agree with you, cheapest fair is probably the single most important factor when it comes to travelling….. especially air travelling… the internet wins hands up in this case.

Hee, that’s kind of funny. I guess it sucks if you have to fire yourself! :)

I guess the only problem I have with the so-called “personal travel-agent” is, for all of the work that I’m putting in or info keeping tabs on, I’m still not getting any of my trips at wholesale prices. Might as well go through an actual travel agent at the local mini-mall for that.
