Grab a cab with Taxi Me
This is a great website to help you avoid getting ripped off! Taxi Me uses Google Maps (yay, Google Maps!) to help you figure out approximately how much a taxi ride will cost you, based on your departure and arrival details.
It’s a fairly common concern where travelers worry cab drivers will take advantage of them if they appear to be tourists, assuming that a visitor won’t know the best and most cost-efficient route to take when using taxis. By using Taxi Me, you can enter in your departure address and your arrival address. The mash-up then uses Google Maps to predict the most likely route and will help you calculate the general cost of the trip.
While it can’t be taken as 100% accurate, it does mean that if you know you’re supposed to go along the main streets and you find yourself on an extremely slow, side road, “scenic” tour, you’ll be able to speak up. Also, if Taxi Me predicts a cost of $20 and your cab fare ends up being $50, you’ll know that you need to have a word with your driver or someone back at the dispatch to speak with a supervisor.
