Keep pests away in your hotel
When people travel, everyone wants to be able to stay in a top-notch, five-star hotel. At the very least, you want to know that the sheets are clean, the water glasses are being washed, and that there are no dead bodies under the mattress (I watch a bit too much crime television).
The thing is, not everyone can afford the best hotels. If you’re only able to fit a motel into the budget, you might still be okay – as long as it’s not an hourly rate no-tell motel, you should get a decent amount of cleanliness. But if you wake up at three in the morning and find a couple of cockroaches waving their antennae at you, you might understandably freak out a little.

What to pack in your luggage just in case? A can of Raid? Well only if you want to gasp and wheeze all night. The Electro-Magnetic Cockroach Expeller promises to rid you of pesky roaches by emitting light and sound to drive them away. It’s effective within a 120 square meter area, and you plug it directly into any available socket. While it won’t help the place get rid of cockroaches indefinitely, at least you can rest knowing your room is clear.
Also, some destinations are just more known for having cockroaches and even your best hotel might have them roaming around. If you can deal with that, more power to you. If you’re like me and just about faint at the sight of one, you might want to get pro-active.
It’s only $25 and is small enough to fit in your carry-on bag for any time you get stuck in a questionable room for the night. I would love to know if it actually works but I’m quite glad my home is roach-free so I don’t have a reason to ask for a freebie to review it.
If you have used one, I’d love to know!

No matter the level of stars in an upstate Lousiana hotel, you’re guranteed bugs, namely roaches and mice! A must need…
120 square meters area…uhm it means that all cockroaches will gather in the 2 rooms immediately out or that range…wow!
Dear Readers,
I must say, that this item and items like it do “actually” work. We have a larger model in our garage which works for roaches and mice (yes, we have mice in the summer months, move in). We have noticed a substantial drop-off of the numbers we deal with this year. I would be first in line if they sold it by my house.

[...] With its friendly climate and limitless sources of comfort and shelter, there’s no doubt you’ve seen your fair share of pests on the islands, by which I mean insects, not your in-laws. We can’t all stay at the Ritz all the time (if ever), so the next time you’re roughing it, hotel-wise, consider this snazzy little device I heard about over at the Geeky Traveler. [...]
oh crikey I want one of these. When I travel to an even vaguely cockroachy place I go through this horrible sensation whatever the hotel quality – every time I open the bathroom door or wake up in the night I gingerly creep about, expecting to come face to face with the little beasties.
Marvellous!
EW! I hate cockroaches so much. I found some in the house I moved into and had a fit. i wasn’t mad .. i just felt like they were intrusive, and I found that rude!
What’s worse is when you find them in your hotel room when you have paid money to sleep safe assured, and you wake up to them everywhere.
Hampton Inn has this hilarious video about a disgruntled hotel guest rhyming about all his terrible hotel nightmares. There’s something I think everyone can relate to in there – I’ll post the link!
