Google Maps Mobile offers transit info too

Not everyone who travels rents a car. If you’re driving to your destination it’s not a problem but renting a car if you fly there may not be possible. If you don’t have a credit card, don’t have enough credit available, or if you don’t meet age restrictions, you won’t be able to rent. Or maybe you’re like me and you don’t have a license! You still need to get around and paying for taxis can get pricey really fast.

Let’s not even mention the cost of gas, right?

Public transit help with Google Maps Mobile

Luckily, your average metropolitan city will have some sort of transit system. Taking the bus or the underground transit is a great way to get around and gives you a different view of the city you’re visiting than you would get if you were behind the wheel of a car.

Google Maps Mobile is already a great service because it offers support to a variety of different cell phones (there are many great map tools for iPhones but that’s fairly useless if you don’t actually OWN an iPhone) and it can provide you with all the information you need on how to find your sought location. However, now they’ve improved it by also adding in transit schedules and transit directions. You can find out which bus or metro is your best bet for getting to your destination and then you can see when it passes by – you can figure out if you need to run to catch that bus right now or if you have time to duck into a store to buy a drink first.

Check out this video from Google Maps Mobile to learn more about how to use their new transit feature and then hit up their site:

Looks like a great idea to me – I know I can use it whenever I’m in another city so I can not only find my way around but also find out when I’m going to get there!
