Business offices to go

Here’s a dilemma – you’re a freelance worker. You work hard and you’re making good money but your office space is in the basement of your home or the corner of your living room. You need to travel to meet with peers but they too are lacking in actual office space. What to do?

I suppose that you could crash someone’s house but that just doesn’t seem quite as professional as an actual office would be. That’s where Blankspaces comes in, and I swear to you, this idea is so incredibly brilliant that I am angry I didn’t think of it sooner so that I could have started it first.

rent an office environment

They offer up a “modern workspace environment” in Los Angeles and in Santa Monica where you can rent an bit of office space, tailor-made to your needs, for daily rates or for more long term (monthly) rates if you need to be in town for awhile. You can get five hours at a work bar for $5, a workstation in a cubicle farm for $50, or an office all of your own for $75. They also have a full sized conference room for $75 per hour.

It suits so many needs. It gives you an office environment to go to if you just need someplace to work and hammer out details before you head out to meet some big wigs, or a room to hold a meeting with other office-challenged colleagues.

What a fantastic idea! Would you rent an office for a day?

It’s only disappointing that they’re limited to just California cities, but if it catches on we could see these popping up elsewhere!

It’s a nice idea……if you’re happy about working in a Corporate environment in the first place. A lot of people who work out of the office get addicted to the variety on offer when choosing different locations to work in. And as far as data facilities go, technology for laptops (such as the Marconi routers for ADSL anywhere, without cables) is set to make remote-working as technology-effective as an office.

However, yes – for looking professional, and hosting meetings, interviews, conferences and larger events – this is ideal!

    Sherry,
I work at Blankspaces all the time! Not only is it a great alternative office environment but it’s fast becoming a “Third Place” (a community center).
    I wrote about this here:

For instance, on Monday I’m holding an event that’s one-part premier party and one-part panel on Entertainment and the Internet.

I think there is place like that in Montreal up St Laurent. Seems I read something in the paper about it a few months ago.

I usually hold business meetings in the Second Cup across the street from where I live. I can hit my Wi-Fi from there (secured, of course).
