Vagabondish has an excellent list of the top ten ways to secure your data while you travel. Some of them are fairly obvious, like being quiet when you’re talking on a cell phone because people overhear you even if they’re not trying to eavesdrop, and telling someone a password over your phone is just begging for trouble. Yapta is a great little website that can act as a travel assistant for you if you’re planning on taking a trip somewhere. You simply visit the site and sign up for free (I love free). Then enter in your desired trip, specifying your departure and arrival cities, the dates you wish to travel, and other details like how many travelers are going and what class you’d like to fly. Where was this tent when I was packing this time a week ago for a four day getaway into the woods with my family?! Campmor offers up the Eureka N!ergy 9 tent which will sleep up to five people (though I always find one less person than the maximum is best for personal space). In an attempt to be both tech-forward and eco-conscious, the Fontainebleau hotel is ready to open a new property in Las Vegas, and they intend to put an iMac in each one of the almost-4000 rooms. This follows the Fontainebleau in Miami Beach which also installed iMacs in all their rooms as part of their paperless movement.

I love this idea. On the one hand, it worries me a bit to think of people who are not computer-savvy plinking away on a beautiful iMac. However, I’m sure that they’ll have heavy duty virus security installed.

Generally when I travel I take a lot of pictures and they’re either family memories or moments where I feel like playing around with my camera. I keep them on my card until I get home and the image files are enormous so I wouldn’t bother with emailing them.

The best part about camping is sitting around at night with just the light from your campfire and maybe a moon if you’re lucky. On the other hand, if you have to get something from the car or make a trek to the bathroom, that little bit of light may not cut it (and carrying a DIY torch made from a large branch lit from the fire is generally frowned upon by park officials).

There are a lot of things on the Internet that I love (can you tell?). Two in particular are social networking and tools that create new Google Maps mashups. Because honestly, I think Google Maps is an incredible service so anyone that can add to it is tops in my book.
