Must-see TV anywhere in the world
I know that if I was traveling somewhere, especially if it was for a vacation as opposed to work duties, I would like to leave most of my life at home. My camera? Sure, that’s coming with me. But I don’t want to carry on like I do at home if I’m somewhere else. For me, part of the magic of going away is GETTING away, you know?
But what if you have to travel for business and you’re really disappointed that you’re going to be stuck in a hotel room in another country halfway around the world and you know you’re going to miss seeing something really important to you like the season finale of American Idol? (Because right now, this month, that is what I would be most upset about missing!)
If you have some kind of truly must-see TV and you’re not going to be in a place that will allow you to watch it on your hotel television what can you do?
You can get yourself the Sling Media Slingbox AV – it’s a special tuner that hooks up to your digital cable or satellite box back home. And it then allows you to watch anything on your TV back home on any computer with high speed internet access.
Seriously.
Obviously, if you’re out camping in the wilderness without any electrical power, let alone high speed, you’re pretty well out of luck and you’ll just have to scour YouTube and RedLasso to catch whatever you’ve missed after you get back home. But as long as you can access high speed, you can still see your favorite show, your local news, or whatever floats your boat.

I’ve been long considering getting one of these. If I remember correctly, certain models also allow access to your DVR. So if there’s “nothing on” in your hotel, you can easily access something you recorded at home.
Interesting tool under the condition you are not a serious traveler or seek soiltude and tranquility somewhere in the wild. I am always amused by travelers striving to pretend that they are at home and bring most ridiculous things with them instead of taking pleasure of their travel.
Whose life is THAT sad that they absolutely CANNOT go without TV from home (or TV at all for that matter). If you find yourself half way around the world GET OUTSIDE AND EXPLORE!! There’s a whole world out there that doesn’t rely on soap operas and bad comedy shows.
If you buy one of these it’s a good indication that you seriously need to get a life.
