Five Travel Gift Ideas for the One You Love

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. I’m not a diamond kind of girl, so ads for Zales and the like don’t make me go pitter-patter or shoot meaningful glances at my husband, hoping he’ll get the hint. I’m more of an electronics or gadget kind of girl (it probably shows, right?). If your sweetheart is an avid traveler, they might appreciate a thoughtful gift suited to their vacationing ways. Here are five ideas to get you started:

  1. Audio Books – If you’re traveling together, you might have plenty to talk about, but if your loved one has to do a lot of solo travel for work, and they already have an iPod or the like, they might enjoy sitting back in their airplane seat with a new book being narrated in their ears. You can get a variety of titles or a gift card at Simply Audiobooks to get started.
  2. A digital camera – Who doesn’t want to come home from their vacation with a ton of photos to remember the best moments? If your giftee hasn’t made the move to digital yet or they could use an upgrade from their current point and shoot, you can present them with a lovely new camera. You can get point and shoot cameras with a lot of fun features and many come with video capabilities, or you can go high end and get a digital SLR camera if you know they’re serious about photography. Having just purchased a Canon Rebel XT, I can tell you it is an awesome camera if they don’t mind lugging around a larger camera bag, but you can find the camera that is perfect for your amour on the Digital Photography Review site.
  3. A neck pillow and/or eye mask – Does your loved one fly a lot? Take long train rides? Help them feel comfortable on their way to their destination with a cozy neck pillow. Meanwhile, an eye mask will help block out light if they need to sleep on a daytime flight. You can find them anywhere – try UncommonGoods if you’d like!
  4. A digital photo keychain – Even when we travel, we usually carry our keys with us. Buy someone you love a digital photo keychain, such as this one from Tao. Even when they’re away, they can see photo reminders of people and things they care about and miss – the kids, the dog, YOU!
  5. USB-powered fragrance oil burner – No matter how clean your hotel room is, it will never smell like home. Sometimes the littlest things make the biggest difference. A tiny oil burner that plugs directly into your laptop’s USB port will allow you to fill your hotel room with fragrances that remind you of home and make life in a hotel just a little more cozy.

My b-friend and I travel with an iPod and then use an earphone splitter so that we can both listen to the same book at the same time!
