Pad your vacation with Travelocity

Travelocity has a nice little beta feature to try out if you’re going on a road trip. The RoadTrip Wizard goes beyond the basic map and directions help. If you fill out your starting point and end destination, you can then go on to plan out where you will stay along the way, what places you’ll stop to see and things you’ll do, and even where to stop to eat. It’s completely customizable in that you can also fill out who will be traveling (is it a solo trip? Family? Group of friends?), what your budget is, how energetic you are, and whether you’re looking for indoor or outdoor activities. It will also let you know if there are any special events in the area at the time of your visit. Finally, you can specifiy whether you’re looking for the fastest route if you just want to get there or if you prefer no freeways because you’d like to explore.

It’s definitely worth looking into if you want a concise and easy way to plan out a road trip!

The other cool thing about the RoadTrip Wizard is that you don’t even have to say WHERE you are going. You can start with just WHO you are traveling with and WHAT you want to do and let the system suggest things.

The product was built by LeisureLogix LLC to allow any web site to add this capability. They host the application AND the content, as well as providing the support.

The whole notion behind creating this tool was to change the old paradigm that required you to say WHERE and WHEN you want to travel and to allow travel planning that mirrors how people plan in real life.

Over $700b in travel is sold in the US each year and only $100b of that is sold online. One of my theories (as the founder of LeisureLogix) is that the systems don’t mirror real life, and as such, force people to go offline to plan their trips. And because 88% of all Americans travel by car, this type of tool is needed to break out of the “point to point” travel planning mode and get to true journey planning.

Check it out and if you know of someone that wants to add the RoadTrip Wizard to their site, please let LeisureLogix know!
