GPS on your Verizon phone
I can’t use it myself since I’m Canadian, but Americans who currently use Verizon may find their VZ Navigator application to be very handy.
It offers features very similar to those of a regular handheld GPS unit, but directly on your phone and a lower price than most decent GPS units cost. VZ Navigator gives you voice-prompted turn by turn directions (with an auto-reroute feature if you happen to miss a turn), heads’ up, and it can search among fourteen million points of interest in the U.S. with color maps that allow for panning and zooming.
You can also go to the website and search there from your computer, then send yourself the details and directions, directly to your phone. If you’re traveling with others who also use the service, you can send maps and directions to them or send the details via basic text message to non-subscribers.
If you only need it for a short period of travel, you can order it for $2.99 per day, but if you end up finding it useful then you can pay for a monthly subscription at a reasonable rate of $9.99 per month.
Visit the site to see if it’s compatible with your particular phone.
I wouldn’t have known about it since we don’t have Verizon up here, but I saw the ad on television tonight and was immediately interested because one of my not-so-secret desires is to someday buy a GPS for myself (for pure fun, like Geocaching) and the idea of it built into a cell phone is just cool!
